E-mail from Teachers
Dear Kathy,
On March 27, 2003, the FLY Dance Company came to perform for Abita Springs
Middle School in Louisiana. We had heard what a spectacular performance
it as prior to your arrival, but the troupe really went beyond our expectations.
This talented group of young men engaged our students and teachers from
the moment they stepped on stage. It was clear that these dancers have
a passion for their work and wonderful working relationship among themselves.
They made learning about the body and movement fun and exciting for our
audience. Most importantly, a positive message was shared with our children
about making good choices for themselves.
I would recommend the FLY Dance Company performance to anyone interested
in combining fun with learning. It is a performance we are likely to remember
for a long time.
Sincerely,
Donna Forrest

Our class would like to thank those who made possible the opportunity
to participate in the FLY Dance Presentation. The students in my kindergarten/first
grade classroom thoroughly enjoyed their outing! They wanted to practice
break-dancing moves all afternoon. Enclosed are some pictures of their
favorite parts.

To all the FLY Dance Group,
WOW! What a great thing it was to have you at our school, Central Elementary,
on Thursday morning. I have seen other dancers similar to your group before,
but none ever with such an ability to relate to the students…even
those as young as ours (first grade). You guys are not only wonderful
athletes, but good role models as well for our young people. Thanks again
for coming our school. We hope you will make it back our way sometime
again. Keep up the great work!

Thank you and the Opera House, so much for asking us to be part of FLY’s
tour. The response from the students has been very positive. Kids across
all grades and experiences thought they were wonderful! I also had several
of the adults in the building stop me and tell me how great FLY captured
the heart of the audience. Some reported the performance as our best assembly
ever!
I very much enjoyed meeting the young men in the troop, and wish them
well in both their tour this week, but also in the years to come. They
certainly have inspired us! Special thanks, too, to Kathy who really appeared
to understand the guys, and the audience, well!

Kathy,
I just got back from the Spring Hill performance. Amazing performance.
I’ve always admired Gene Kelly and Fred Astaire, I‘ll now
have to add these young men to my “must sees”. I wish my students
could have talked to them in a small group, I’m sure even my hard
to reach students would have listened. Keep up the excellent work.

Ms. Wood,
I do want to thank you for bringing “FLY Dance” to our school
today. The kids really enjoyed the show. I would also like to thank George,
Isaac, Rock and Javier for the great performances. They did a super GREAT
job! I hope I will have the opportunity to see them again in the future.
I am a Social Studies teacher in the 6th grade and I can tell you the
kids were talking about the performance in the hallways and classrooms.
I heard one say “I am going home and practice my break dancing.”
They did create an air of excitement for the kids…. And tell them
“thank you” for not making the teachers perform it…
other wise I might have needed an ambulance! God bless all of you and
thanks again for the performance.
Sincerely,
David White
